What we do

Maharashtra is located in the western region of India. The state was established on 1st May 1960. Maharashtra is the wealthiest and most developed state in India, contributing 15% of the country’s industrial output and 13.3% of its GDP. The total area of the state is 307,710 square km. It shares its border with Gujarat to the northwest, Madhya Pradesh to the north, Chhattisgarh to the east, Andhra Pradesh to the southeast, Karnataka to the south, and Goa to the southwest and by the union territory of Dadra and Nagar.



Mumbai is the state capital city of Maharashtra. Mumbai is also known as the financial capital of India. There are 35 districts in Maharashtra. It is the second-most populous state of India. Marathi is the official language of the state. The economy of Maharashtra mainly depends on trade, entertainment, technology, petroleum and film industry. Bollywood is one of the largest centres of film production in the world is located on Mumbai. Godavari, Penganga, Bhima is the main rivers of Maharashtra. Mumbai, Pune, Aurangabad, Kolhapur, Nagpur, Nashik are the main cities of Maharashtra.

Maharashtra Mandal Qatar – a non-profit organization was established in 1997 in order to foster and cherish the distinctive cultural heritage of Marathi speaking people from Maharashtra (India), residing in The State of Qatar. Mandal has grown from a small group of founding members to 1000 plus members till date. Last 25 years Mandal has been functioning to preserve Maharashtrian culture here in Qatar.

Our Mandal is well known for it’s keen interest in Art & Theater. Throughout year Mandal arranges various entertainment programs conducted by professional artists, amateur local members. In order to transmit Marathi cultural heritage to the next generation, festivals like Diwali, Makarsankrant, Chaitramas are celebrated by focusing on our customs, rituals and traditions and while doing so we ensure that local laws are followed properly.

Mandal not only arranges programs of well-established artists but also provides a platform for our talented members to show their talent through different programs such as “Swar Aale Juluni”, “Avishkar Ekankika Mohotsav”, & “Chaitramas”.

It is very essential to preserve and pass on culture and traditions to the next generation. Being NRI it becomes a very important aspect too. Mandal organizes cultural & traditional programs for our MMQ members, in such a manner, to ensure active participation & involvement in a way they can understand and seek their active participation.

Every year in January, the Annual General Meeting is held to review the accomplishment of incumbent Working Committee and to elect new President along with the Working Committee for the next two year. This autonomous body continues to carry on the tradition with sincere efforts though the next Two years.

The main objective of Mandal is to maintain Marathi culture, Maharashtrian values and the traditions by organizing musical concerts, staging dramas, dance performances, live interviews, field trips and encouraging and encouraging the youth participation in various social and cultural activities.

Since our inception, Maharashtra Mandal Qatar has been trying to structure the relationship among its members through rich cultural, social & traditional activities.
